I first noticed the thing with Queerty readers when I wrote a comment to a Queerty article to the effect that wanting rights equal to straights’ is one (good) thing, but wanting to be just like straights was another (not necessarily good) thing. That brought about the sharp rejoinder "What’s wrong with straight people?"

I wondered if I were on the wrong site. But there were more replies in the same vein: straight people are good, we should all try to be more like straight people, and so forth. As I read more comments to Queerty articles I did notice a considerable fastidious, pruny prudent undercurrent in many remarks.

Then J.C. Adams, author of Gay Porn Heroes, wrote a Valentine’s day piece for Queerty about gay porn couples. Admittedly gay porn couples are a mixed bag: strictly for PR pairings, things that did not work out, and so forth are not too rare. (Nor, of course, are they very rare among straight couples in not-so-sexual aspects of show business.) Nonetheless, Adams’ piece was mostly about successful couples.

This brought out the Queerty Readers; Decency Brigade like they were responding to a 4-alarm sex act. It seems porn stars are hollow people, desecrating the sacredness of sex, and the rest of it you can hear in plenty of Bible-belt sermons. I’m not kidding. No one can wring the gay out of homosexuality like these guys. And if you disagree with them, you too are damaged and miserable, however unaware of being damaged and miserable you may be.

The QRDB (Queerty Readers Decency Brigade) turned out again when Queerty ran the news of the suicide of a former gay porn model. Seems suicide is just deserts for all the horrible things gay porn stars are and do, and if you don’t agree, you are damaged and miserable too, not to mention all hollow and empty or something. No QRDB flame fest would be complete without the mention of AIDS, drugs, and money problems, although of course none of these factors seem to have been factors in the death of this successful businessman.

Who are these guys of the QRDB? Are they agents provocateurs sent from the 700 Club? If not, they are among the purest examples internalized homophobia ever observed. What’s the point in being queer if you are determined to be more anti- than homo-? And finally, is being a stick-in-mud self-righteous prig a choice?

Las Vegas nightclub SHARE has scheduled its grand opening, which will benefit NOH8 and local HIV/AIDS charity Golden Rainbow, for Saturday, March 3.

This special occasion will be hosted by E! Entertainment’s Ross Mathews with musical performances by the UK’s Luciana heating up the night. Additional, confirmed guests include Carson Kressley, Jai Rodriguez, Ronnie Kroell, Angel Porrino, Josh Strickland and Laura Croft from E! Entertainment’s TV hit “Holly’s World,” Penn and Teller, Josh Flagg and Madison Hildebrand with Bravo’s “Million Dollar Listing,” “Tabatha Salon Takeover’s” Robby LaRiviere, Mike Ruiz and a cadre of national and international journalists are flying in to cover the event.

Adam Bouska and Jeff Parshley’s NOH8 campaign will “Share the Equality” and celebrate as both guests and Vegas entertainers alike are photographed for their iconic marriage equality images. Beginning at 9pm the first 100 guests will receive complimentary photos, courtesy of SHARE.

Fascist voices greeted the fall of Prop 8 (in the 9th Circuit appeal) with consternation and lies. So many lies, it is hard to know where to begin.

Here’s one: Prop 8 not only served to dis gay people, but also banned polygamy. That’s a lie.

One of the 9th Circuit’s reasons for overturning Prop 8 was that Prop 8 served no purpose except to single gay people out as unequal. But the fascists say, because Prop 8 defined marriage as being between one man and one women it also served to outlaw polygamy, which would be a constitutionally permissible purpose, I presume.

Of course that is not so. It is not so because polygamous marriages are contracted between two people. In polygamy, several people are not married to several people. That is group marriage, and it is rare in all the world (one of the few places group marriage was practiced was in religious communities of Europeans in America). Polygamy, as practice in Islamic cultures, as was practiced by Mormons and still is practiced by fundamentalist Mormon sects, and everywhere else polygamy is practiced, is one man married one woman — and the same one man married another one woman, and the same one man married married yet another one woman. And yes, it is men who are polygamists — no culture with genuine polyandry has ever been found.

One-man-one-woman does not exclude polygamy, so (beside the fact polygamy is already illegal under other California statutes) Prop 8 did not serve the purpose of outlawing polygamy and served no purpose other than to make second-class citizens of gay people.
