James (Richard) Hannah was born January 1, 1951, in Lufkin. He attained a BA and MA at Stephen F. Austin, and MFA from Writers Workshop at the University of Iowa. HE was elected to the TIL in 1999 when he was associate professor of English at Texas A&M. He is currently on the English faculty of TAMU Qatar.
His books include two short story collections Desperate Measures and Sign Languages, and a work of criticism Tobias Wolff: A Study of the Short Fiction. He has edited a volume of World War I writings The Great War Reader.
