Joseph Milton Nance (c. 1914?—January 17, 1997) did graduate work at the University of Texas at Austin in the '30s, when he work in the organization of materials gathered in a work project to survey historic documents. He wrote numerous books, mostly published in the early '60s by the University of Texas Press, on Texas history in and around the Republic period. He was a professor of history and chairman of the department at Texas A&M University. He accumulated volumous source material for a work on the Mier expedition and wrote a large manuscript which has been edited and published posthumously.
