
Judy Alter was born in Illnois, but has spent most of her adult career in Texas, and much of that in association with the TCU Press, where she has been director since 1987.
Alter is astonishingly prolific. Her titles are principally, but not exclusively in the field of children's non-fiction. Her adult novels include A Ballad for Sallie, Cherokee Rose, Jessie, Libbie, Mattie [link to large print edition], and Sundance, Butch and Me. Her juvenile non-fiction includes Abraham Lincoln (one of a presidents series), Beauty Pageants: Tiaras, Roses and Runways, Sacajawea, Texas (one of a states series). She has also written young adult fiction and numerous articles and short stories.
