
Molly Ivins was born Mary Tyler Ivins, August 30, 1944, in Monterey, California ("But I got here as soon as I could"). She grew up in Houston and graduated from Smith in 1966. She took an MA at the Columbia School of Journalism and studied a year at the Institut d'études politiques.
Molly Ivins has served as co-editor of The Texas Observer and has worked as a political reporter and bureau chief for The New York Times. In the 198s she moved to Dallas to work on the Times Herald before its demise. Her syndicated columns in the Ft. Worth Star Telegram brought her to national attention.
Her books include Bushwhacked: Life in George W. Bush's America, Shrub: The Short but Happy Political Life of George W. Bush, Molly Ivins Can't Say That, Can She?, You Got to Dance with Them What Brung You, and Who Let the Dogs In? Incredible Political Animals I Have Known.
