
Sarah Bird was born December 26, 1949, in Ann Arbor. As a child she moved far and frequently a a part of an Air Force family. She was graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1973 and attained a masters in journalism at the University of Texas at Austin in 1976.
She wrote five romance novels as Troy Cates, and a mystery Do Evil Cheerfully as Sarah McCabe Bird, before her successful comic novel Alamo House, based on her experiences in a women's cooperative residence during her graduated studies, was published in 1986. The Boyfriend School followed set against the background of a small publication very like Third Coast Magazine at which she had worked during its brief existence. Other novels include: The Mommy Club, Virgin of the Rodeo, and most recently, The Yokota Officers Club, about life in a service family.
Bird wrote the screenplay for the movie of The Boyfriend School which was theatrically released as Don't Tell Her That It's Me (but is now on DVD as The Boyfriend School). She has written several screenplays for television productions including a CBS movie "Yesterday's Children" and shares story credit for "The OH in Ohio" which has an estimated release date in December of 2005.
