Stephen Michaud

Stephen Michaud

Stephen G. Michaud was born in 1948 in Burlington, Vermont, but moved with his mother to Tacoma, Washington when he was young. He was graduated from Stanford in 1970.

Michaud worked for Newsweek in the early '70s and covered the Dean Corll ("Candy Man") murders for the Houston bureau, and eventually several other infamous crimes along with the space program and other science stories. In 1977 he went to work for Business Week as Research Editor, in charge of science and technology coverage. He left Business Week and the prospect of working in Japan for McGraw-Hill World News to work on a book about Ted Bundy, who still proclaimed his innocence and who shared an uncanny number of biographic coincidents with Michaud. (Now) TIL member and Michaud's former associate at Newsweek Hugh Aynesworth collaborated by investigating the evidence while Michaud dealt with the delicate matter of getting Bundy to talk about crimes he denied committing. The resulting book was successful, and Michaud and Aynesworth collaborated on several other books.

Michard's books include: The Only Living Witness, Ted Bundy: Conversations with a Serial Killer, Wanted for Murder, If You Love Me You Will Do My Will, Murders Among Us, Lethal Shadow, The Evil That Men Do, Left for Dead, The Vengeful Heart and Other Stories: A True Crime Casebook, The Miracle of Island Girl (juvenile as "Stephen Gage"), Dark Dreams, JFK: Breaking the News, and several successful ghost-written books.
