Another Celebration of Slavery

30 April 2012

Corrupt City hosted yet another celebration of slavery Sunday as yet another plaque bearing the slavery flag was dedicate on the Corrupt State capitol grounds. The celebration was also replete with the fluttery kind of slavery flags of both the cross of St. Andrew and star-and-bars varieties.

The particular excuse for this open display of pro-slavery sentiment was the dedication of a memorial to pro-slavery warrior and convict (attempted murder) Ben Thompson. Notorious is not a sufficient word for this man, who naturally enough served a short term as Corrupt City marshal.

Of course Corrupt State racists hardly need much of an excuse to unfurl the Slavery flags, get dressed up in Slavery army uniforms and fire 21-gun salutes with Slavery-era rifles, and any cad who ever fired a shot in defense of slavery seems to qualify for these dubious honors.

Can’t Throw $ at Apple Fast Enough

30 April 2012

Pitiful. It seems Corrupt City cannot throw money at Apple fast enough. In spite of the $36 million in corporate bribes (aka incentives) Apple one of the richest corporations in the world is frustrated that it is not offered more, proving once again that with great riches goes insatiable greed.

Found Literary Objects

5 April 2012

Hello, we are a group of students from Central New Mexico Community College, and we wanted to ask a question. In your Dumpster Diving article, you mentioned compiling the diaries and journals you found over the years. Did you ever accomplish this? Thank you for your time.

Short answer: no.

I never managed to hang on to enough of them. Although naturally I think everything I write is fascinating, I still cut about 90% of what I write out before publication. You can imagine how much I might cut from found material. I still think there might be something in "Reality Literature," which I suppose would have about as much to do with reality as "reality TV" does.

I just don't think I am the one to do it.

A Different World

2 April 2012

We are three students from Central New Mexico Community College, and we just recently read your Dumpster Diving article. Our question to you is, If people had the insight of material goods as you do, would the world be different?

No doubt the world would be different. How is a little difficult to say. Reality tends to snap back with unanticipated consequences, but…

Consume Less, Waste Less

2 April 2012

I am a college student attending Central New Mexico Community College, I read your essay On Dumpster Diving. My question to you is, As a college student what advice could you give me to consume less and to not waste as much as the average American?

Being poor, up to a point, helps. That is supposed to be somewhat humorous, but the point is that when resources are limited people have to budget or they end up very unhappy at the end of the month: the order-out pizza on payday means a week of ramen at the end of the month. That is really, on a longer time scale, the situation of the Earth.
